BAA residency students and their teachers at galeria EL Claustre – Figueres standard

Last Friday, we attended the opening of the exhibition of a selection of works by the BAA Residency students and some of their teachers at Galeria El Claustre in Figueres (Girona). At 8pm Mariano Mascort introduced the artists and the director of the Barcelona Academy of Art, painter Jordi Diaz Alamà. When Diaz Alamà took the microphone, he thanked all the participant artists for their implication and excellent attitude during all the organization process, and the gallery for their hard work and warm welcoming. The show includes the works of BAA Residency students Sofía Zuluaga, Raffaela Freyre, Bernat Barris, Alba Gallart and Roser Ruiz Romero, together with art pieces by their teachers Diaz Alamà, Gerard Castellví, Joe Altwer and Dorian Iten, and ...

Experience the presence of painting in the cinema at BAA’s Cinefórum standard

The past month of March a new activity was presented at the BAA, the Cinefórum. The Cinefórum is a space dedicated to the cinema sphere in which participants can educate their perception and familiarize with the seventh art. Every session counts with the the view of an independent cinema movie or a documentary film in which the interdisciplinariety of cinema with other arts is well exposed. By now, two films have already been projected such as Drifting Clouds, by Aki Kaurismäki, and Freaks, by Tod Browning. This week is Partie de campagne’s turn, by Jean Renoir, the son of impressionst painter Pierre Auguste Renoir. Christmas Holidays at the BAA standard

Last week, the lessons for the first term at the Barcelona Academy of Art got to their end, and after three months of work come the well-deserved Christmas holidays. The Academy will be closed for two weeks to prepare new spaces such as a portrait room. We wish you happy holidays from the BAA. See you the 7th of January! La semana pasada terminaron las clases del primer trimestre en la Barcelona Academy of Art y tras tres meses de trabajo han llegado las merecidas vacaciones de Navidad. Durante dos semanas, la academia permanecerá cerrada para poder acondicionarla con nuevos espacios como una sala de retrato. Desde la BAA os deseamos unas felices fiestas. ¡Nos vemos el 7 de enero!

Christmas Market standard

The arrival of December to our calendars means that there are little days left to the start of the Christmas festivities, and this year the Barcelona Academy of Art is going to open its doors to a new experience. On Saturday, the 20th from 11 am to 19 pm a Christmas market will take place at the BAA in which students and teachers will exhibe and sell some of the works that they have created on the academic level as well as on the personal. Josep Llimona al MEAM standard

El proper dimecres 3 de desembre, el Museu Europeu d’Art Modern (MEAM) inaugura Una passejada per l’obra de Josep Llimona. 150 anys, que comptarà amb la col·laboració de la Barcelona Academy of Art.     La retrospectiva presenta un recorregut al voltant de la creació artística de l’escultor Josep Llimona i Bruguera (Barcelona, 1864-1934), des dels seus inicis en la seva època de formació, fins a arribar a l’etapa de maduresa. Com a novetat, l’exposició compta amb obres inèdites que no han estat presentades al públic fins al moment. Digital sculpting and concept design standard

Digital sculpting and concept design is a subject taught by David Masson every wednesday from 17:30 pm to 20:30 pm and there students learn to design and model creatures and characters using Zbrush as a main software. Zbrush is a 3D software used by digital artists in cinema, animation, video games and illustration (among others). The process of sculpting in the program is very intuitive, and works in a very similar way to traditional sculpture. Halloween in BAA standard

With the end of October comes Halloween, and with the fall of the night, the Barcelona Academy of Art transformes as a werewolf to welcome the witches' night. During the last hours of the 31th of October, the academy put aside its normal appearance to fill its rooms with spiderwebs, skeletons, pumpkins and other kinds of typical decorations of this celebration. When the lessons finished, students and teachers went to the dressing rooms to put themselves on the skin of diferent horror characters and the party was inaugurated. First Generation exhibition standard

The past 15th of October, the inauguration of First Generation took place with the collaboration of the museum MEAM. First Generation is the first exposition in which is exposed the work realized by the students of the Barcelona Academy of Art during their first academic year. The exhibition counts with 80 works and examples of the different disciplines that are taught at the academy, from the classic and the traditional to the most experimental side. The exposition gathers the result of a whole year of students and the teaching staff working side by side. The BAA opens its doors for the new academic year standard

 After a long summer, the Barcelona Academy of Art is ready to welcome the 2014-2015 academic year. During this holidays months, the BAA installations have been set up so as to receive the new students that are joining for their first year and for the new activities that will be carried out by the the students that are specializing in their second year. In this way, the academy will count this year with two model rooms for drawing and painting, one sculpture area, two drawing areas, and an individualized spaces area where students develop their work.
